SLDC Shines on NBC4’s California Live

Buena Park, CA – October 16, 2023 – As part of National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, Speech & Language Development Center (SLDC) took center stage on California Live, a popular program on NBC4. The segment showcased the remarkable work being done at SLDC to help students with Down Syndrome and other special needs reach their full potential. Hosted by Amber Pfister, the segment featured a conversation with SLDC’s CEO, Dr. Adrienne Kessler, and Gianna (Gigi), a sophomore here at SLDC.

October marks National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about Down Syndrome and celebrating the achievements and contributions of individuals with this condition. SLDC has emerged as a beacon of hope for such individuals, providing innovative and enriching programs tailored to each student’s unique needs.

In the opening moments of the segment, Amber engaged in a lively conversation with Adrienne, who provided a brief but illuminating overview of SLDC, outlining the essential services we offer. She then delved into the unique programs and continuum of care that make SLDC stand out in the field, all of which are designed to empower students with the tools they need to succeed.

Amber then introduced Gigi, who shines both inside and outside the classroom. Gigi possesses a remarkable sense of humor, is brimming with energy, and takes great pride in being a natural-born leader. Gigi shared her love for SLDC and what makes the school so special to her. She spoke about her favorite teachers, what she wants to do when she grows up, and her favorite song, “Havana.”

We are grateful that California Live has shed a spotlight on the exceptional work carried out by everyone here at SLDC. Our dedicated team continues to make a profound impact on the lives of students like Gigi, offering hope, support, and the resources they need to achieve their greatest potential.
