Buena Park, Ca – November 30, 2023 – This past week SLDC, and our community celebrated Giving Tuesday, a worldwide day of giving to support your favorite charities and non-profits. It is held annually the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, a fitting time to give back to others once you have acknowledged all you are thankful for. Every year, SLDC is moved by the power of Giving Tuesday as we witness the giving spirit of our community.
This Giving Tuesday, our call for support for our Adult Transition Program was answered as SLDC raised over $30,000!
Our day of giving was made all the more special through a $10,000 matching gift opportunity generously provided anonymously by one of SLDC’s most dedicated couples in honor of their longtime friend Pasquale “Pat” Gabriele. They believe that Pat’s legacy of optimism, selflessness, and compassion lives on through the achievements of our students and they hope to inspire others through their gift.

Our Adult Transition Program for students 18-22 supports individuals in mastering independent living skills through a person-centered approach. We focus on individual strengths and interests to cultivate healthy habits like diet, exercise, leisure activities, and vocational training. Our campus offers a kitchen, vocational lab, media center, fitness center, and art studio to help our adults explore their passions, and we build upon their strengths to empower more independent lives by offering job coaching, supported employment, resume development, fitness, culinary, and technology lessons.
